Dutch 'heavy taste' museum, tourists dare not look inside, locals: it's normal

Apr30, 2025

Some people enjoy appreciating beautiful scenery, some enjoy visiting museums with different themes, and some enjoy experiencing ancient buildings with antique charm. It is precisely because different travelers have different requirements for landscapes that multiple buildings or landscapes with distinct characteristics have emerged, such as the "heavy taste" museum in the Netherlands, which is divided into multiple areas and jointly exhibits gender knowledge. Westerners confidently enter museums without blushing or beating their hearts, indicating that it is normal. After entering the museum, Chinese tourists are very shy and dare not look.

Amsterdam
In 1985, Western countries gradually deepened their openness, especially the Netherlands. To further showcase basic knowledge of gender, this led to the emergence of the Dutch Gender Museum in Amsterdam. The museum is not far from the central station. After arriving at the central station by train, visitors can reach the Dutch Gender Museum within a few steps. The museum is not open for free, and people need to pay a ticket fee of five euros.
The impression of Amsterdam is full of humanistic atmosphere, with flowers and green grass growing together, gradually forming a picturesque ultimate scene. In fact, the reality here is not like that. It presents the decadence and intoxication of the world in a unique and tolerant state. Although there are established rules in the world, the social order and cultural status of Amsterdam challenge traditional principles and morals. The Gender Museum is bold, but its presence in Amsterdam is not so uncommon.

Gender Museum
Before the construction of the museum, local residents maintained an open attitude towards life. They learn about gender knowledge through various channels, and when children are young, parents and teachers will transmit basic knowledge to them. As people age and gradually expand their channels of acquiring knowledge, the Gender Museum is one of the important channels.

The museum is divided into three levels: upper, middle, and lower. The bottom level consists of two halls and a corridor. The central hall on the first floor is very spacious and preserves a wax figure of Marilyn Monroe. The second and first floors are connected by a spiral staircase, adding a sense of fashion and mystery to the gender museum. Museums have photographic works and sculptures related to gender, each with different meanings. Designers often revolve around this theme when completing their work designs and seeking inspiration.

In addition, the items in the museum come from multiple regions, such as artworks from Asia. In addition, the museum also collects masks and ukiyo-e paintings, reflecting attitudes and perspectives from different religious and philosophical backgrounds.
Some carved artworks from Nepal and Indonesia are among them, giving a strong sense of conflict and powerlessness. There are many works of art, and both pictorial and photographic works are posted. Tourists cannot know the specific names of the characters in the photographic works, and in order to further protect the privacy of the authors and characters, the museum does not indicate specific information.
